Henry Ford stands next to the first and the ten millionth Model-T automobiles he ever built. Ford was a pioneer who knew he could improve the assembly line to make the car industry far more productive and efficient.

Throughout his life, Alexander Graham Bell had an interest in the education of deaf people. His curiosity regarding acoustics, or the study of sound, led him to invent the microphone and, in 1876, an “electrical speech machine,” which we now refer to as a telephone.

Philo Taylor Farnsworth was an American inventor and the first engineer to successfully transmit an image using electronic means. He began to play with electrical currents as a teenager. This early interest led to the development of the television.

Dr. Temple Grandin has applied her natural curiosity and empathy to the improvement of livestock-handling devices. Believing that behavioral principles rather than excessive force can better control livestock, prevent them from getting hurt, and keep them calmer, Grandin developed animal restraint systems. Her systems are used today to handle nearly half of all the cattle raised in North America.
